But for rabbit owners and future rabbits, you may be wondering how long your furry companion will live. Their lifespan varies depending on several factors, including breed and care. Here is a timeline to ensure your rabbit lives a healthy life.
How long do rabbits live?
On average, domestic rabbits can live between 1 and 2 years 8 and 12 years oldreports Blue Cross. The oldest recorded domestic rabbit was born 18 years and 10 months oldaccording to PetMD.
Domestic rabbits generally live longer than their wild counterparts. Wild rabbits have an average lifespan of 1 to 2 yearsaccording to the Blue Cross. Their lifespans are shorter due to environmental impacts such as predators, access to food and a lack of safe conditions.

Unspayed female rabbits are also at a higher risk of developing uterine cancer, which can lead to a shorter lifespan, reports PetMD.

There are three phases in the life of a rabbit: young, adult and senior.
Rabbits are considered juvenile up to 12 months of age when they grow up. Adulthood lasts up to 5 years old.
Once a rabbit is over 5 years old, it is considered a senior.
