SCOTT Mills has broken his silence with an emotional statement after it was revealed he is replacing Zoe Ball on the Radio 2 Breakfast show.

Zoe53, stunned fans today after that in which she announced that she would resign from her position after six years to “focus on family”.

But it was only after a few moments that she revealed the previous one Radio 1 DJ Scott51, had gotten the job.

Zoe said: “He’s one of my best friends and you already know and love him.”

The pair reminisced about how they first met, with Scott saying she did him “the biggest favor of (his) career” when he first came onto radio.

Zoe continued: “I can’t think of anyone better to do this,” as she raved about her friend’s presenting skills.

“You’ll be great at this job. Can I also thank you for letting me set my alarm a little later?”

Scott responded, “Think of all the things you’ve done since you started doing this,” before listing her accomplishments, including interviews with Abba, Paul McCartney And Elton John.”

“Now they’re going to have all of Mills because this show, baby, is going to be yours, you’re going to have absolute success with it,” Zoe replied.

Her biggest piece of advice is, “Go to sleep.”

Scott later said in a statement: “Zoe and I have been such good friends for over 25 years and have spent much of that time as part of the same radio family here at Radio 2 and also on Radio 1.

“She has done a fantastic job on this show over the past six years, and I am thrilled to be handing over the baton.”

“It feels like since recording my first shows as a child in front of an audience of one, my mother, all roads since then have led to this amazing opportunity.

“It really is a lifelong dream come true to follow in the footsteps of Sir Terry, Chris and Zoe and become the new presenter of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show.”

Zoe’s final show is on Friday, December 20 – with “lots of fun and tricks planned” ahead Christmas.

Scott does a staple of our screens and radios.

He hosted the Eurovision Song Contest on home soil in 2023 and returned to the track for a second time for the 2024 competition.

He started his career at the age of 16 as a presenter of his local radio station Power FM.

He was given the graveyard slot (1 a.m. – 6 a.m.) at the station and became the youngest regular presenter on regular commercial radio.

Scott later went to work at GWR FM Bristol, 103 Piccadilly Key Manchester and center 106.2 inches London before becoming a national radio star.

Scott joined in Radio 1 in 1998 as a presenter for the early breakfast show between 4am and 7am.

Zoe Ball’s career so far

Zoe was born in Blackpool and is the daughter of the children’s TV presenter Johnny Bal and his wife Julia.

She appeared on television at an early age as part of the studio audience of the Saturday morning children’s show, Saturday Superstore, when her father was a guest.

The star started her career in broadcasting as the presenter of preschool program Playdays.

After various roles behind the scenes, she earned a place as a permanent presenter of Top of the Pops, alternating with, among others, Jayne Middelmiss And Jo Whiley.

In 1996 she was chosen as frontman BBC OneSaturday morning show Live & Kicking, which led to stints The big breakfast on Channel 4.

But she continued to have a huge presence on radio when she was chosen as co-host of BBC Radio 1 Breakfast with Kevin Greening in October 1997.

Zoe was later appointed sole presenter of the show, a groundbreaking move by the company as she was the first female DJ to hold the post.

The presenter chose to leave the channel in March 2000 to start a family, where she was succeeded Sara Cox.

A mainstream face of television in the 1990s, she presented a series of major programs for ITV, including the Brit Awards in 2002, extinct in 2006, and both Soapstar superstar and Fat is the Word in 2007.

She returned to radio in mid-2002 when she joined Xfm (later known as Radio), when she was the voice of the weekday Drivetime show until December 2003. In 2004 she replaced Ricky Gervais while he filmed the second series The office.

In October 2005 she appeared as a contestant on the third series of Come strictly dancewho she worked with Ian WaiteThe star impressed viewers with her footwork and the duo waltzed to third place.

In 2011, she returned to the franchise when she took over as host of the magazine’s spin-off show, It takes two.

She also filled in Claudia Winkleman on the main show in 2014, then The traitors star said goodbye after her daughter suffered serious burns.

After 10 years fronting the show, Zoe announced she was quitting her role BBC Two in May 2021.

Zoë’s journey within BBC Radio 2 started in 2006 when she directed specialized documentaries. Over the years she was up for names like Dermot O’Leary, Know Bruce And Chris Evans.

After several shake-ups, she returned to the station permanently when she took over Dermot’s Saturday afternoon slot between 3pm and 6pm.

In October 2018, Chris Evans moved to Virgin Radio and he personally announced that Zoe would take over his popular slot. She started presenting the breakfast show on January 14, 2019.

In July 2005, he switched to an early evening weekday schedule while providing coverage Sara Cox who was on maternity leave.

Sara decided not to return, so the slot became The Scott Mills’ Show from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Scott has also appeared in a number of TV shows.

From 2006-2007, he appeared as reporter Paul Lang on the medical soap opera Accident.

He has also participated in Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Supermarket Sweep, Brain and most spooky.

In 2009, Scott Mills: The Musical played three nights at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

In 2010 he did another side show The Bjorn Identity, namely The Bourne Identity to the music of ABBA.

It comes as Zoe announced her departure during her breakfast show this morning.

But she said she will remain at the BBC Radio 2 – teasing an announcement in the new year.

Ball said: “After six incredible years on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, it’s time for me to step away from early mornings and focus on my family.”

The 53-year-old broadcaster mysteriously ‘disappeared’ from her breakfast show for six weeks last summer.

In July it was Zoë listed as the BBC’s second highest-earning starbehind Gary Lineker.

Radio 2 presenter Zoë’s salary fell between £950,000 and £954,999, compared to £980,000 and £984,999 last year.

It came after Zoe’s son Woody openly told about her whereabouts.

Last weekend it was also revealed how the DJ had traded in a life in her £2 million Sussex mansion to live near her ex Fatboy Slim, real name Norman Cook, in Brighton and Hove.
