How SWAT is preparing to return for an eighth season on the 2024 telecast, the CBS show has plenty to celebrate. The series returns after not being canceled for a second time, and ahead of season 8, the cast and crew celebrated the milestone of filming 150 episodes. Shemar Moore also gave one of his famous speeches to his colleagues on this topic, where he revealed that he almost turned down the role and considered saving the show twice.
Earlier this week, the cast and crew gathered around SWAT-themed cake to celebrate their milestone. Moore shared a video of the speech on Instagram, thanking everyone who works on the series and those who came before them, like the original SWAT series and movies, check:
Moore also revealed in the speech that he initially skipped the show “because the money was shit.” However, it was only a conversation with my mother that changed my mind, he added
I passed and it was because the money was shit. And then Shawn Ryan sent me a really nice email, and then the script or the pilot came together and I got through the trailer. And I was in my mother’s house – and mother is in Heaven, mother was smiling at me, at us – but I was at my mother’s house and at 9:30 in the morning I said, “Mom, let’s drink Hennessy.” ‘ and she replied: ‘But it’s nine in the morning.’ I said, “Read this trailer.” She sat down, read the trailer at the age of 74, and said, “Oh, honey, oh, that’s my son’s show.”
The actor also felt the need to assure everyone about this SWAT it’s not just him or a single person, but the whole village. He even fought to get everyone on the first poster because the network only wanted him.
Of course, he also felt the need to bring up the non-cancellation issue twice, and it’s truly amazing to see that the show is now celebrating a major milestone despite coming close to ending more than once. Although the future is always uncertain, Criminal minds alum admitted that he is committed to taking the show to 10 seasons and 200 episodes, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens in less than two years.
150vol the celebration couldn’t have come at a better time SWAT returning for season 8 in the same week. Already in April it was announced that there would be a drama was not canceled for the second time in less than a year, and filming began in the summer. While the show will look a little different with some cast changes in Season 8, as Alex Russell and Kenny Johnson left last season, it will still be an exciting set of episodes.
Earlier this month in CBS’s fall trailer, Shemar Moore also said he was “grateful” to be back for another season, and I couldn’t say it better myself. Now that the show is already 150 episodes long, although it could have easily ended at 128 or 141 episodes, the word “gratitude” is probably the best way to describe the feeling of gaining more.
It’s very possible SWAT could have 200 episodes, and CBS president Amy Reisenbach has previously said that she personally likes Moore’s show and is happy that the network was able to renegotiate with Sony. So let’s hope this mentality continues for a while and the show continues to be renewed. However, while it’s exciting to look to the future, let’s focus on the present because SWAT Season 8 premieres Friday, October 18 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
