Charles Spencerbrother Princess Dianavisits his sister’s grave at the Spencer family’s ancestral home in Althorp “almost every day,” he revealed in the Tuesday, October 15, episode Good morning, Britannia.
Diana died at the age of 36 in a car accident in Paris in 1997 and was buried on a small island near the Round Oval lake in Althorp. Charles, 60, has been guardian of the estate since 1992, following the death of his father, John Spencer.
“And of course she was buried at home,” Charles said. – Yes it’s true. I go there almost every day. Last week, one of her closest childhood friends arrived on the island. And it was so nice.”
When Diana died, her funeral was one of the most watched programs in British history, with tributes pouring in from around the world. Today, the island where Diana is buried can only be reached by boat, cut off from the general public.

At one point, a bridge connected the island to the rest of the estate, but it was removed to protect the privacy of the family, Diana’s son Prince Harry wrote in his 2023 memoir: Reserve.
“The bridge was removed to give my mother privacy and to deter intruders,” he wrote.

“I’m sure almost everyone who watches this show has experienced family trauma at some point,” Charles said. “And like everyone else, you kind of get used to it and it never goes away.”
Harry, who was a few days shy of his 13th birthday when Diana died, brought his wife with him, Meghan Markleto visit his mother’s grave for the first time in 2022, on the 25th anniversary of the accident.

Sensing that Meg might need a moment too, I walked around the hedge and looked around the pond. When I returned, Meg was kneeling with her eyes closed and her hands resting on the stone.
As the couple returned to the boat that brought them to the island, Harry asked Meghan what she was praying for at the moment.
