One person died in a motorcycle accident in Vancouver, one in hospital

A female passenger was taken to hospital in critical condition.

A well-known racer was killed in a motorcycle accident in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighborhood on Christmas Eve.

The driver of the motorcycle collided with an SUV while he had a female passenger on the bike. The collision occurred at the intersection of Cornwall Avenue and Balsam Street on December 24 at 4:25 p.m.

According to police, the driver died at the scene and the woman was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Condolences online for the driver identify him as Josh Rittberg.

Glacier Media confirmed with BC Coroners Service that Rittberg is the deceased at the scene.

Rittberg, who probably lived in Vancouver, is known as a motorcycle racer.

Police said the motorcycle was a 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000, the same motorcycle Rittberg uses for competition.

In 2024, Rittberg won “Most Improved Rider” at the Westwood Motorcycle Racing Club.

Many people shared their condolences for Rittberg on social media, saying he will be missed.
