How Roger Rosengarten prepares for his first confrontation with TJ Watt

That’s just like Rosengarten. Looking back, his first play is the Henry touchdown, not the Jones sack. It’s that ability to leave mistakes in the rearview mirror and continue to improve that has impressed the Ravens’ veteran offensive linemen. It’s also a quality that will likely come in handy on Sunday.

Rosengarten prepares for his first fight against Steelers pass rusher extraordinaire TJ Watt on Sunday at Acrisure Stadium. The former Defensive Player of the Year and six-time Pro Bowler is sure to pick up some wins against the Ravens rookie, but Rosengarten is looking forward to a 60 Minutes battle.

“I’m excited,” Rosengarten said Tuesday. “He’s one of the NFL greats. He’s part of the Watt family, football royalty. To go against a guy like that, it’s going to be a great, great match for me, so I’m excited.”

Not long after the adrenaline of his call rushed through his body, Rosengarten’s thoughts turned to the big AFC North pass rushers he would have to block: Watt, Myles Garrett, Trey Hendrickson, etc.

But while Garrett and Hendrickson primarily go against left tackle, Watt goes almost exclusively against right tackle. While other Ravens will certainly be called in to help, Watt will be Rosengarten’s assignment.

As he does every week, Rosengarten studies Watt’s movements, trying to determine how he will try to contain the man he rightly called a “game-wrecker.” And as he does every week, he asks a lot of questions and gets advice.
