‘Excellent courage’

Asst Chief Const Tim Mairs, gold commander for Operation Moonbeam, praised the “extraordinary bravery” of first responders “who put themselves at risk to keep communities safe”.

He added: “Their actions ensured that some of the challenging scenes we witnessed this year did not escalate into mass disorder, on the scale of what we witnessed last year.

“Nonetheless, the level of violence and aggression faced by police, fire and ambulance crews in some areas was completely unacceptable and a significant investigation is now underway to identify and bring all those involved to justice.”
