Chandigarh: Facing an acute shortage of bureaucratsthe Chandigarh Administration has written to the Haryana Government to control two panels Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officers of the UT for the selection process. The move follows the recent withdrawal of the names of two selected HCS officials from the UT, forcing the UT to approach the state government again.
Sources said the government is considering getting officers from the central government as well, if the Haryana government shows laxity in sending officers in replacement.
“Since the Chandigarh government has been facing a shortage of officers, many have been facing additional charges. As a result, the majority of officials work under great pressure and are unable to perform their duties effectively as they have to serve multiple crucial departments, deal with policy matters, decision-making and other important aspects. If the neighboring states do not want to send their officers to Chandigarh, the UT will have no option but to bring in DANICS officers (Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu Civil Service) from the central government” , sources within the UT told TOI.
The governments of Punjab and Haryana regularly raise the issue of officer numbers with the Chandigarh government.
