Flood protection work along Railway Ave in Minot is nearing completion

MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – There’s good news for residents near Railway Avenue in Minot. The MI-5 flood control project is almost 80% complete.

Crews were on Tuesday meeting with contractors who delivered the flood wall components and made sure everything was working near the Railway Avenue closure.

The flood control project began on Third Street. This involved moving Railway Avenue the width of the road north, placing a levee where the road used to be, and then moving all utilities north.

Construction of the corridor began in 2022 and should be completed next year.

Jason Sorenson, director of utilities for Minot Public Works, shared what needs to be completed before the road can be officially opened.

“We would certainly like to have the lights and streetlights working before we divert traffic there. It’s a pretty dark part of town,” Sorenson said.

Aleja Kolejowa is scheduled to open to public traffic in November.
