-It’s so easy to hide. An arrest leads to the discovery of an extremely small weapon

WYANDOTTE, Mich. (WXYZ) — When Wyandotte police pulled over David Bush near Goddard and Fort Streets, it was because they believed he had run a red light. However, the October road inspection did not turn out to be a routine activity.

Police say Bush admitted to possessing the knife after he was arrested and it was the only weapon he claimed to have.

“The subject was adamant that he had no other weapons on his person,” said Wyandotte Police Chief Archie Hamilton. “He specifically asked him, ‘Do you have a gun on you?’ No weapons.”

But Bush had guns – two hidden ones.

“He sees a bulge right here, now look, now the officer is pulling and he has this gun around his neck, which is dangerous. Now the officer is telling his partner to come over there because now he’s trying to get the gun out of his neck, which is a bad situation for the officer because this guy is insecure. You’re trying to take the gun off. What if it works out?” – said Chief Hamilton, showing us around the video footage from the camera.

Chief Hamilton says this arrest could have easily led to violence.

“It’s good that he had no bad intentions, because he could have harmed these officers. And it’s good that these officers came across this person. It started with a simple road check. He ignored the red signal. It’s not a big deal. And then it turned into a felony arrest. Someone who is not only armed with two guns… illegal guns, but is also under the influence of alcohol,” Chief Hamilton said.

The chief is now warning the community to be wary of finding unusually small firearms officers.

“It was actually a black powder gun, which is something we don’t see every day,” he said.

Chief Hamilton claims that in all his 24 years of service, he has never seen this type of single-shot pistol.

“What makes it so dangerous is that it can be hidden. This is the type of weapon you can carry with you at any community event. I mean… anyone can hide it. You can put it in your purse. “You can put it in your pocket. They can put it in your shoe,” he said.

It calls on drivers to especially avoid confrontations

“We often see people going crazy on the road, don’t we. They get mad when someone cuts them off. Well, this person is probably intoxicated… there is a good chance they could cut someone off. What if this person is under the influence of this weapon and becomes involved in a road accident? So people need to remember that, get over it,” Chief Hamilton said.

Bush was impeached Tuesday on several charges, including carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a weapon under the influence of alcohol.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on Thursday.
