Man, dogs and puppies rescued from house fire on Brownswood Road

A man, two dogs and six puppies are safe after a fire broke out at a home on Brownswood Road on Friday afternoon.

Fire Department in St. Johns arrived on the scene shortly after 12:30 a.m. Homeowner Maurice Jones said he was home during his lunch break when he noticed a strange smell after turning on the laundry. After investigating, he discovered flames shooting up to the ceiling in the laundry room.

Jones expressed gratitude for the quick response of firefighters that kept his dogs, who were in a room adjacent to the laundry room, safe.

“It wasn’t safe to go into the house, but you can see a bottle of melted laundry detergent and charred clothes that firefighters threw on the porch,” Jones said.

All six German Shepherd-Husky puppies are doing well.

“The fire brigade did their due diligence and saved the puppies. They went in there and grabbed all six of them because it was pitch black and dark in there,” Jones said.
