But Wired magazine spoke to conviI saidnsurrectionists who seem optimistic that this is a promise Trump will keep.
Wired also cited a social media post from a rioter named Jake Lang attacked police with a riot shield and a baseball bat. Lang wrote on X that he is confident he will be released on Inauguration Day. He denounced the people who played a role in him facing the consequences — from the District of Columbia grand jury to the FBI — and said he forgives them all. but added:
God’s Word lives in my heart and I offer you a better way forward to restore America: repent of your sins before God and turn from your evil, ignorant ways – Father will hear from heaven and fill our land like evil converts.
There will be no bitterness in my heart when I walk out these doors on Inauguration Day 75 days from now. The grace I have received from God is too sweet to mix with hatred.
Another jailed rioter, Dominic Box, told Wired he feels “electric” and “vindicated” after Trump’s victory. And Adam Johnson, who was too sentenced to prison after he was photographed carrying then-Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi’s lectern on January 6, posted on social media about return to the Capitol on Inauguration Day.
Keep in mind: Trump ran a campaign in which he repeatedly talked about violent crimes and bragged about the things he would do to stop it. If and when he makes good on his vow to release the January 6 insurgents, it will demonstrate that he is fine with people who aid, encourage, or personally dish out violence… as long as they are his supporters.
A country where that is tolerated is a country in which none of us is safe.
