Heidi Klum may have some controversial opinions when it comes to pizza!
On Tuesday, October 28, the supermodel, 51, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE at the debut of Crazy Pizza NYCthe newest location of the luxury pizza chain.
Klum, a partner and investor in the New York location, dished on her favorite controversial pizza toppings and discussed working with her ex, Italian businessman Flavio Briatore.
According to the model, she and Briatore are the biological father of her daughter LeniThe 20-year-old, who was also present at the restaurant’s opening, had one “big fight” when they decided which toppings would be on the menu.
“I had a lot of arguments with Flavio about one item – because I’m German and in Germany they have Hawaiian pizza – it’s pineapple and ham,” America has talent judge revealed. “I grew up with Hawaiian pizza, so it has pineapple on it, but Italians think it’s the worst thing on earth.”

The model recalled Briatore telling her, “They said, ‘That’s impossible. We’re not doing this.’ And I thought, ‘But why?’ There are a lot of tourists, I hear.
“Moreover, I am also a partner. So I feel like I should have a say,” she joked. “So he said, ‘Fine.’ But normally, he says, “Italians definitely don’t do Hawaiian pizza.” I’m like, ‘Well, in Germany there are Italians in Germany, and (also) my friends’ from Australia (go-to).
Although the item is not on the official Crazy Pizza NYC menu, a special version of the pizza was served to the model at the restaurant’s grand opening on Tuesday, October 29. She said Briatore asked her to become a partner at the New York Times. Location in the city of York – due to her knowledge of the area – and she hoped “people like the food” so they could potentially do “more” business ventures together.
Although Briatore and Klum’s relationship ended before she had Leni, the model said she and her ex worked well together — and her husband, Tom Kaulitzwas also present with her at the opening sons Johan, 17, and Lou, 15. She also shares Henry, 19, with Seal.
“Leni’s biological father Flavio, he asked me to become partners with him and his pizza ventures,” she said, referring to the 14 Crazy Pizza locations around the world. “So this is the first in America, and there will be more to come.”

“It looks so cute,” she added. “I’m so happy with it… I think it looks great. It’s super chic. And of course the food is great, and we leave that to the Italians.”
Elsewhere in her conversation with PEOPLE, Klum teased what she has in store for her 2024 Halloween costumeas she is known for extravagant Halloween costumes at her annual Halloween party in New York
“I always get worried,” the German-born star said of planning her costumes. “Because there is no real process. Like, I can’t really fit until I’m in it. Because I only know on the day(s) if it works. And then you know, and then something happens and I’m like, ‘Oh god.’
Located in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood at 218 Lafayette St., Crazy Pizza will open to the public on November 6.
