Michael van Gerwen has reached the seventh PDC World Darts Championship final of his career after beating Chris Dobey 6-1 in the semi-finals on Thursday evening.
The Dutchman, a three-time winner of the event, has been without a title for six years – a barren run that few could have predicted during his prime.
MvG may no longer be the most important man in the sport, but he has given himself a good chance of ending the drought after reaching the final of Friday’s showpiece event.
Van Gerwen, who has lost his two most recent final matches, will face the winner of Luke Littler vs. Stephen Bunting.
‘Mighty Mike’ claimed the opening set in strong style against Dobey, before pinching the second to establish a 2-0 lead.
Dobey fired back with a roof-raising 170 and would get his solitary set before MvG ran away with the game thanks to a great finish.

Van Gerwen gave a powerful interview after the victory in the darts semi-finals
Never one to hide his honesty, Van Gerwen dropped an F-bomb as he reflected on his victory with Sky Sports on the main stage.
He was not one to be carried away by clichés. He was asked how a world title win in 2025 would compare to his successes from 2014, 2017 and 2019.
Van Gerwen wouldn’t bite and explained in his own candid way that he still has a lot to do before he considers the title his.
That’s something to worry about tomorrow…I don’t care,” he said.
“I’m only in the final. I still won f*ck all. So I have to make sure I do it tomorrow.”
Sky Sports quickly apologized for the language.
Dart fans on social media loved it, though, with one writing: “Gotta love Michael van Gerwen.”
Another wrote: “Michael van Gerwen, a true professional. I loved that interview.”
It is not the first time Van Gerwen has made headlines in front of a microphone this tournament, with his criticism of Peter Wright and his rival’s wife causing a stir at the event.
