In 2010, a Mumbai tabloid claimed that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan could not become pregnant due to gastric tuberculosis. This invasion of privacy has led to Amitabh Bachchan he expressed his anger on his blog, where he defended Aishwarya and asserted the Bachchan family’s right to privacy.
The tabloid was heavily criticized for spreading false and insensitive information about his daughter-in-law. It was emphasized that such reports were not only intrusive but also very hurtful, especially when it concerned personal and sensitive matters such as health.
“I write to you today in deep fear, pain and disgust. This article is completely false, completely fabricated, baseless, insensitive and of the lowest quality of journalism there has ever been,” Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his blog, as quoted by PTI.
Amitabh said that Aishwarya is like a daughter to him and not just his daughter-in-law. Stating that he was determined to defend her against any disrespect, he stated: “I am the head of my family. Aishwarya is not my daughter-in-law, she is my daughter, a woman, a lady in my house and home. If anyone speaks derogatorily about her, I will fight for her until my last breath. If you have something to say to the men in the house, Abhishek or me, I will bear it. BUT… if you make injudicious comments about the women in my house, I will not tolerate it!!!”
This was not the first time that Amitabh Bachchan defended Aishwarya Rai. In 2003, while shooting for ‘Khakee’ near Nashik, Aishwarya met with a serious accident which forced her to be rushed to hospital.
The media portrayal of Aishwarya Rai’s accident upset Amitabh, who would later become her father-in-law after marrying his son Abhishek Bachchan. “I couldn’t sleep for two nights. To see this happen before my eyes! Her back was torn open by cactus thorns. The bone at the back of her feet is broken. She suffered serious lacerations. And her injury was reported as trivial,” Big B had said.
On April 20, 2007 Aishwarya Rai married Abhishek Bachchan in a grand ceremony. The couple welcomed a daughter named Aaradhya Bachchan in 2011.
