Residents of the model town of King Charles are threatening legal action over plans to plant a ‘curtain of trees’ in front of their new homes that will block their views.
Homeowners in Poundbury, Dorset, paid a premium for the uninterrupted views of Thomas Hardy’s Wessex countryside.
They now say they were misled by Duchy of Cornwall developers after learning of plans to plant 22 trees right before their eyes.
The proposed bird cherry trees could grow up to 25 meters high and 26 meters wide, which will result in the views of at least eight luxury homes being ‘completely obscured’.
They fear the trees could also cause problems with insuring the properties because they grow too close to their boundaries.
To make matters worse, the local highways authority has warned the Duchy that if the planting goes ahead they would not take over the road, meaning residents would also have to foot the bill for any maintenance.
Peninsula Way people claim the developers, CG Fry, have mis-sold the properties and are prepared to take them to court if they go ahead with the scheme.
For their part, the Duchy and CG Fry say the trees were always in their plans, but are now considering planting a different species.
