Day 1 of the first test between South Africa and Pakistan has no shortage of compelling moments on the field. The series opener will be played at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
Kamran Ghulamplaying only his third Test, was involved in a tense moment – first with bowler Kagiso Rabada and then South African wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne. The incident took place during the 31st over of the innings. Ghulam pulled out at the last minute due to a disturbance behind the bowler’s arm. Rabada, wicketless and starting his eleventh over, was not happy with Ghulam pulling out at the last minute.
However, Ghulam was not happy with Rabada’s reply, which was not picked up by the stump microphone. However, the swear words Ghulam uttered were depicted quite well. Ghulam nodded his head while looking at Rabada and used the swear words against the bowler. In an attempt to dampen Ghulam’s mood, Verreynne came over to clarify the situation, pointing to the viewing screen. However, Ghulam was heard repeating the same words to Verreynne, who looked bewildered as he walked back to his original spot.

Paterson and Bosch share nine wickets as the hosts gain the upper hand
Pakistan were blown apart by an astonishing fast bowling performance from Dane Paterson and Test debutant Corbin Bosch, who took five and four wickets respectively. Barring Ghulam who impressed with a half-century, none of the other batters scored higher than 30 as the visitors were bowled out for 211.
At the time of writing, South Africa have lost a number of wickets in the form of Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton. However, given the overall process, they appear to have considerable control as they aim to match Pakistan’s numbers before they can gain an edge.
