If The LEGO Movie We learned one thing: EVERYTHING IS GREAT! If The LEGO Movie But we learned something else: Brick-based blockbusters in particular can be pretty awesome indeed. And Nacho Libre And Napoleon dynamite director Jared Hess will certainly hope that this will be true A Minecraft movieare upcoming, Jack Black and Jason Momoa starring in a live-action version of Mojang’s wildly popular sandbox video game. Watch the latest trailer for the film below:
If only the film’s first trailer conveyed something serious Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle vibes, then this latest one leans even further into that hey-guys-we’re-in-a-video-game vibe, properly introducing us to Jack Black’s Steve, who we learn “longed for the mines” as a kid before eventually winding his way to his blocky childhood dreams. If you’re a fan of the games, you’ll be richly rewarded with glimpses of redstone constructions, well-known ones Minecraft musical stabs and chicken cooked in lava – all lovingly rendered with the game’s geometric angularity and a Super Mario Bros. Film style softness that really pops off the canvas. However, if you’ve never made a single pixelated wooden pickaxe before, the boppy tones of MGMT’s ‘Time To Pretend’, Black and Momoa seemingly challenge each other for an ultimate dude, and the sheer visual imagination of it all promises that we heading into something with a little more substance than the cynics among us might have expected.
And if you’re still unfamiliar with the Ender Pearl from your Creeper, here’s the official synopsis for the film, which stars Emma Myers (Wednesday), Danielle Brooks (The color purple), Sebastian Eugène Hansen (Just grace), and Jennifer Coolidge: “Welcome to the world of Minecraftwhere creativity not only helps you create, but is essential for your survival! Four misfits – Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks) – struggle with ordinary problems when they are suddenly drawn through a mysterious portal to the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they must master this world (as well as protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies) as they embark on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert tinkerer, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be brave and reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative… the very skills they need to thrive again in the real world.”
We’ll find out if A Minecraft movie is _ore_some or will it actually be a bit _ghast_ly when Jared Hess’ film hits theaters on April 4, 2025.
