Arcane co-showrunner and co-creator Christian Linke has teased the future of Caitlyn and Vi’s relationship following their messy breakup in Act 1 and sudden reunion on the edge of the commune in Act 2.
‘There is love, yes. But the question is: can it survive?’ Linke says in the second episode of Arcane’s Afterglow on YouTube. ‘Caitlyn has a huge weight on her shoulders and in that position I think she definitely feels like she can’t allow herself to indulge her personal feelings – and comes across as vulnerable. (She cannot) be distracted by that. “
While Caitlyn is still focused on the job of commanding Piltover (for now, anyway – we can’t imagine Ambessa being too excited about the double crusade from last episode), Vi responds to their separation with a concoction of booze. and arguing.
On how losing Caitlyn has affected her, Vi actor Hailee Steinfeld says she is “completely lost.”
“She doesn’t have a mission (for the first time in her life). There’s not a moment where we see her without a clear direction. Even though it’s a little foggy, she still steps with so much conviction and so much confidence. But for the first Sometimes she is completely lost.”
Linke agrees, adding, “She’s always been a very strong person until she lost her compass here, which I think is so disorienting for her.”
