Suspects linked to the Avoca robbery have been arrested

TWO men, allegedly linked to an armed robbery in Avoca, were arrested on Friday afternoon (November 15) by members of the KwaMashu SAPS Trio Crimes Unit and the Marshall Security Special Operations Team.

The suspects were also linked to a robbery in the Montclair area and were seen fleeing the scene in a Toyota Etios.

The duo had reportedly robbed roadside workers of two lawn mowers before fleeing the scene.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell confirmed that the suspects fled the scene and drove to KwaMashu.

“While our members were patrolling the M25 near Malandela Road, they noticed the lawnmower vehicle visibly sticking out of the window. They intercepted the vehicle at the intersection of Malandela Road and the M25 and successfully arrested two suspects, along with the assistance of the KwaMashu SAPS Trio Crimes Unit.

“During the search of the vehicle and the suspects, a gas pistol in the possession of one suspect was found. Police also recovered two lawn mowers stolen in the Montclair robbery, as well as numerous mobile phones, bags and personal documents belonging to other victims,” he said.

Powell added that investigation also revealed that two of the recovered cellphones belonged to women who had been robbed in Montclair earlier that same day.

“The suspects were also linked to a robbery on Avoca Road in which a man was robbed of his mobile phone and wallet. The items were also found in the Etios. The suspects, the stolen items and the vehicle were transported to KwaMashu SAPS for further investigation. Police suspect the individuals may be linked to a series of armed robberies in the greater Durban area. The investigation is ongoing,” he said.
