A car expert has recommended some tips that can help drivers avoid accidents and frustration caused by one of the most annoying habits on the road in November.
As the nights get shorter and more motorists drive in the dark, many have seen other road users following behind with their high beams on.
Although high beams can be particularly useful when driving on unlit roads at night, they can have serious consequences for how much motorists can see ahead and result in offending drivers having to pay fines of up to £5,000.
Fortunately, Simon Waye, technical engineer, is there ATS Euromasteremphasized that there are a number of ways blinding drivers can stay safe.
He explained: “These tips can help ordinary motorists adapt to the demands of winter roads, keeping themselves and others safe during one of the most dangerous times of the year for road users.”
Firstly, ATS Euromaster recommended that drivers who are dazzled by another vehicle behind them try to adjust their rear-view mirror.
The majority of new cars are equipped with a rear-view mirror with day and night function, which is operated automatically or by pulling down a small tab at the bottom of the frame.
In most cases, pulling the tab reduces the amount reflected, meaning drivers get significantly less glare from the headlights behind them.
Likewise, the company recommended that drivers ensure their windshield is kept clean, which can also help them feel more comfortable while being dazzled by a vehicle.
Because roads tend to be dirtier during the fall and winter months, drivers can quickly find themselves with a windshield covered in dust, mud and grit, which can reflect light.
As a result, ATS Euromaster highlighted that regularly spending some time cleaning the inside and outside of vehicle windows can be critical to ensuring driver safety.
