‘I’m 67 and in the best shape of my life – this is the exact workout routine I swear by’

Sometimes there are those of us who may have a passing or incidental interest in it excercise over the years, and later in life, we discover that suitability shouldn’t be an afterthought; it should be a top priority. That’s how it went Andrea Lepciowho, at the age of 67, is now the founder of Powerful fit and helps women over 40 achieve their fitness goals. In Bar Harbor, Maine, Lepcio gives lessons and also continues her own fitness quests.

Starting a new chapter

Lepcio says she has always loved moving and was a dancer in her younger years. But she admits she would train inconsistently.

“I’m glad I started strength training at the age of 40, but often that was no more than once a week,” she says.

Then she turned 59, when Lepcio said she was “very fortunate to be fired right after her birthday.”

“I say ‘great fortune’ now because it gave me the opportunity to rethink the years ahead,” she says. “I realized that I was getting older and no longer taking care of myself.”

Then Lepcio had a radical idea. She thought that if she had a certified personal trainerit would benefit her, and she could help others.

“That’s why I consider myself customer No. 1,” she says. “I try everything on myself first to determine what works for my aging clients.”

Strength training

“I strength train three times a week,” says Lepcio, adding that her current strength training program calls for 15 minutes a day six days a week, and she alternates between upper body And lower body moves. Her sets include squat, planks, wall sits, pushups, triceps dips and isometrically inverted bicep curls. Many of the movements she performs are solely bodyweight and require little to no equipment.

Cardio

Lepcio works cardio incorporated into her routine six days a week, saying that as soon as she turned another year older, she “doubled down on cardio.” She says, “I want to make sure I have good endurance as I get older,” especially since heart disease runs in her family. She rows for 20 minutes or walks for 20 to 60 minutes. Lepcio adds that she lives near Acadia National Park, which gives her the opportunity to do so walk at least once a week. She takes the seventh day of the week as a day of rest.
