Sanju Samson is receiving rave reviews after scoring back-to-back T20I centuries for India. After hitting a hundred against Bangladesh last month, Samson followed that up with another three-figure score, this time against South Africa in Durban on Friday, becoming the first Indian batsman ever to do so at international level. Samson, who has been promoted to open the innings in T20Is, gave a witty response to a reporter who asked him to rate his performance as an opener.
“Opener aapko maine dikha diya mai kaisa dikhta hoon. Baaki aap bolein mai kaisa dikhta hoon (I showed what I’m like as a leadoff hitter. Just tell me what I look like),” Samson said before bursting into laughter.
Samson scored 107 off 50, an innings with seven fours and ten sixes. Thanks to his knock, India scored 202/8 in 20 overs and in reply South Africa were bowled out for 141 in 17.5 overs.
Samson said the Indian team has tried to go ‘all in’ regardless of the challenging conditions. when you lose the toss and even the conditions are tough, we have to go all in,” Samson said.
“We can’t think that we will have to look for something like 160-170 in these wickets because I think it makes the chase a bit easier. “We just wanted to attack even though we knew the condition helps the bowlers to some extent,” he added.
India defeated South Africa earlier this year to win the 2024 T20 World Cup and Samson says the team wants to play as world champions and continue to dominate this format.
“We are certainly the world champions at the moment. So I think we have to play like that and just keep trying to dominate in this format,” he said.
