TOLEDO, OH (WTVG) – Findlay Spectrum has been a mainstay in the LGBTQ+ community in Findlay for nearly 15 years. But it doesn’t have the resources to continue.
Spectrum has multiple LGBTQ+ support groups, along with a food and hygiene pantry. They also have a gender-affirming closet, where clothing is offered to those in need. They also set up the annual one Findlay proudly in the park.
The non-profit organization is run mainly by volunteers. The group’s board president, Jessica Grosso, said they simply don’t have the resources to continue.
“Spectrum has done everything they can over the years to get its name out there and let people know what we have for these services,” Grosso said. “But we could only do so much.”
That’s where a new organization comes into the picture.
Kaleidoscope Youth Center, also known as KYC, has partnered with Spectrum of Findlay to pick up where they left off.
KYC is an Ohio nonprofit organization based in Columbus. They offer virtual behavioral health services and have a drop-in center in Columbus. The center provides support to LGBTQ+ youth and their families. There are also homes available for those who need them.
This transition comes at a crucial time, Grosso said as needs grow in the Findlay region.
The space that already exists in Findlay isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Erin Upchurch, KYC’s executive director, said they will work with Spectrum to survey the area’s youth to see what services and programs are needed.
Upchurch said they could end up with a brand new center depending on what is needed. The timeline is still unknown.
