Sandys Parish Council will host an event at St. James Church Hall on Thursday (November 7) to educate parents and community members about identifying and preventing gang grooming.
A spokesperson said: “In an effort to strengthen the community and protect our youth, Sandys Parish Council is pleased to present a major event: “Identifying and Combating the Dangers of Gang Grooming.” This educational session will take place on Thursday 7 November 2024 at 6.30pm at St. James Church Hall, Sandys.
“The presentation, led by expert Teledo Breary, aims to shed light on the tactics gangs use to recruit young people, and equip parents and guardians with the knowledge to recognize and counter these harmful influences. This session is open to all community members, with a special focus on empowering parents, guardians and youth activists.
Topics covered include:
- “Communal Grooming Techniques: Understanding how gangs use seemingly innocent interactions to build trust and manipulate young people.
- “Warning Signs: Identifying behavioral and social indicators in youth that may indicate gang involvement.
- “Preventative Measures: Practical strategies for parents to engage in open, supportive conversations with their children and set protective boundaries.
- “Community Resources: Information about support systems available to families dealing with gang grooming or related issues.
“This event is designed to be informative, practical and supportive. In addition to the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to connect with community resources, promoting a safer and more resilient environment for Sandys Parish residents.
“A light meal is provided, creating a relaxed and communal atmosphere. Award for the school that is part of Sandys Family of School. Giveaways for parents and students in attendance.
“Sandys Parish Council encourages all members of the community to attend and work together to protect the future of our youth. Together we can take proactive steps to combat gang grooming and support our young people in making positive life choices.”
