Memorial tour planned for murdered woman in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Runners from across Middle Tennessee have organized an evening run to remember a woman who was killed while jogging on a greenway in Nashville in October.

On Monday, November 4, people are being urged to get outside, wherever they are, and run at 5 p.m. in honor of 34-year-old Alyssa Lokits, who was on the run when she was attacked and killed on October 14. The Nashville area will participate, but runners from across the country are also expected to participate.

“Run for Alyssa” has become a rallying cry for people in the Nashville area and beyond who are outraged that another woman has been killed while running.

Online posts expressing disbelief over Lokit’s death have littered social platforms. Women lament the fact that it has become increasingly dangerous for them to simply run alone, even in broad daylight.

Lokits was jogging on the Mill Creek Greenway on Oct. 14 when 29-year-old Paul Park allegedly attacked her, sexually assaulted her and then shot her in the face as she screamed for help. The incident took place between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM

Since Lokits’ death, several “Run for Alyssa” memorial runs have been organized. A running club in Hendersonville honored her memory with a group run on Oct. 16, and hundreds showed up to run at the same Greenway trailhead where she was killed on Oct. 21.

Park will appear in court to face murder charges in connection with Lokits’ death.
