Regina election: here’s what you need to know

Voting day for Regina’s civic and school board elections is quickly approaching. Here’s everything you need to know before Election Day.

To vote, you must be a Canadian citizen who is at least 18 years of age on election day, a resident of Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months, and a resident of Regina or owns land within the municipality for a period of at least three months.

Here’s what else you need to know before you vote.

Who is participating in these elections?

Regina residents can vote for the mayor, city council members and school administrators.

Including the incumbent mayor Sandra Masters, there are eleven mayoral candidates. A total of 19 names will be on the ballot for city public school board positions, 11 names will be on the ballot for individual school boards citywide, and 52 candidates are running for city council members in 10 different neighborhoods.

Do I have to register?

Yes, voters in Regina must be registered. If you want to vote, you can print and complete a voter registration form and take it to your polling place. Forms will also be available at polling stations.

When can I vote?

Although Election Day is November 13, voters have the opportunity to cast their ballot during the election preliminary polls from November 1 to November 4. Eligible voters can cast their ballot during any of the preliminary voting rounds, as long as they bring proper identification.

Polling stations will be set up at Regina City Hall, Northgate Mall, North West Leisure Centre, South Leisure Center and Victoria Square Mall, and will be open from 10am to 6pm.

There will also be a drive-thru polling place at Regina City Hall, which will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voters should enter Smith Street from 12th Avenue. On November 4 only, there will also be an advance polling station at the University of Regina’s URSU multi-purpose room at the Riddell Center.


On November 13voters must go to the designated polling station between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. They can find that via look up their address here.

What should I bring?

Voters must bring one government-issued photo ID, or two government-issued IDs showing their name and at least one with their address.


Other acceptable forms of identification are passports, birth certificates, social security cards and any other identification issued by the Government of Canada, the Government of Saskatchewan, a municipality in Saskatchewan, a school division or an Indian band in Saskatchewan, or the Metis Nation – Saskatchewan.

Can I vote by post?

Yes, eligible voters have the option to request their ballot by mail. This ballot must be received at the Elections Regina office by 8:00 PM on Election Day to be counted.

You can request a ballot online, by email, mail, fax or in person at the Elections Regina office. Once completed, it can be mailed or dropped off at the Elections Regina office.

Anything else I should know?


The city of Regina will offer free transit and paratransit on Election Day, including the return trip.
