Two Yates County Jail inmates face drug and contraband charges

Two inmates at the Yates County Jail have been charged with multiple charges related to drugs and contraband at the jail, following an investigation by the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.

Shakur E. Allen, 27, and Walter H. Bennett, 34, were charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, promoting prison contraband and fourth-degree conspiracy, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The charges stem from a recent investigation into the smuggling of contraband into the prison.

The charges led to the arraignment of both men, who were remanded to the Yates County Jail pending further court proceedings.
