If you choose to tell Varric, “This is a mistake,” He attempts To stop Solas anyway and Never disapproving of your choice while Harding approves of your decision. This means you lose a bit of the relationship with Neve, but you gain a bit with Harding.
When the group ends up at the lighthouse after failing to stop the ritual, Varric will regret not listening to you and that you were right when you told him not to fight Solas. He realizes that he underestimated how determined Solas was in his decisions. This is purely a dialogue difference and has no consequences other than changing what Varric says to you when you wake up at the lighthouse.

Neither choice is better and it ultimately comes down to whether you want to get any approval from Neve or Harding. The choice you make here will not affect the outcome of the story events that follow, because whatever choice you make here will Varric will eventually get hurt when he faces Solas. His trusty crossbow, Bianca, is also destroyed by Solas.

Ultimately, I told Varric, “You can do it,” because I felt like supporting him was the right way to go after playing. Dragon Age: Inquisitionas Solas was one of his friends and also mine when he played as Inquisitor. There’s also no way to stop Varric from influencing Solas even if you don’t want to, so I wanted to support him and the team in general rather than betray his trust.
When making this choice, I also took into account the approvals and disapprovals of the relationship. I decided it was more important to build a relationship with Neve than Harding since she had only recently joined the party while Harding had been around a bit longer at this point.
Neither choice will make or break your relationship with either partner, but if you’re interested in a romance with either of them, your best bet here is to choose the option that will strengthen your relationship with them to make the process easier . However, there are plenty of other opportunities to build your bond with Neve and Harding after this, so you can definitely overlook the approvals and disapprovals and make the choice that feels right for your character if that’s more important to you.
