A prolific shoplifter is banned from wearing a wig after numerous attempts to disguise himself.

Hannah Roberts, 33, used a series of hairpieces to avoid a ban on entering shops.

Earlier this month she was given a Criminal Behavior Order (CBO) by Gloucester magistrates sitting at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court.

Roberts was banned from entering affiliated stores by the City Safe Scheme but repeatedly ignored the sanction.

When challenged by staff or security officers, Roberts reportedly became abusive and fled with stolen items.

In an attempt to circumvent the ban, she had also worn various wigs to disguise herself.

However, a distinctive tattoo on her neck made it easy for staff to recognize her.

Under the CBO, Roberts is banned from entering Gloucester city centre, as well as all shops participating in the Gloucester City Safe scheme.

She is also prohibited from wearing a wig or hairpiece intended to alter her appearance when entering a storefront.

Police Officer Andy Plant, from Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Vulnerabilities Team, said: “Our retail sector is suffering from these persistent shoplifters.

“Roberts has been the biggest perpetrator of shoplifting in recent months and we now have another tool to deal with her in the form of this Criminal Behavior Order.

“We will continue to support our businesses in the city and its surrounding areas by tackling shoplifters and seeking further orders from the courts where possible.”
