Brewers Hill man accused of murdering girlfriend finds himself in conflict with police

BALTIMORE – Detectives are linking an armed standoff in Baltimore County to a homicide in Baltimore City’s Brewers Hill neighborhood.

On Monday night, Baltimore police visited an apartment in the Porter complex on Toone Street, looking to interview 28-year-old Amy Armstrong.

Meanwhile, in the backyard of an Owings Mills home, county deputies were negotiating with her 27-year-old boyfriend, Gabriel Gomez-Fiorenza, who was carrying an AR-15 that threatened to kill himself.

Initially, the police wanted to ask Amy what was bothering Gabriel, but she never answered the door.

After surrendering, Gabriel confessed to shooting Amy in their apartment.

That’s when Baltimore City officers walked through the unlocked door of Amy and Gabriel’s apartment and found her shot to death in the kitchen.

Police discovered a .223-caliber round on the floor, indicating that Amy had been killed with Gabriel’s AR-15.

During an interview with detectives, Gabriel said he and Amy had had an argument earlier in the day. It is unclear what.

He claims to have taken his AR-15 with plans to end his own life in the couple’s kitchen.

Gabriel said Amy heard him rack the gun, prompting her to come out of their bedroom and remove the gun.

As Amy struggled to pry the gun free, Gabriel recalled putting his finger on the trigger, causing it to fire, hitting Amy in the head and face.

Gabriel remembers calling Amy’s name after she fell to the ground, but didn’t call for help.

Instead, he got into his car and drove to his family’s home in Owings Mills, where he clashed with police.

Gabriel is now charged with first and second degree murder.
