Israel reports that Hezbollah has fired rockets from Lebanon amid escalation

JERUSALEM

Israel reported new rocket fire from Hezbollah on Monday, amid a growing escalation along the Israeli-Lebanese border.

Israeli public broadcaster KAN said about 15 rockets were launched from Lebanon towards Kiryat Shmona and other settlements in northern Israel.

According to a reporter from Anadolu, rocket sirens sounded in the settlements of Kiryat Shmona, Al-Manara, Margaliot and other areas close to the Lebanese border.

KAN said some rockets landed in open areas in the Galilee region and set off sirens there.

The Israeli military, meanwhile, said it had intercepted a drone fired at Israel over Lebanese airspace.

The Lebanese group Hezbollah said early Monday that it has carried out six military operations against Israeli forces in southern Lebanon and northern Israel since early morning.

On Sunday, Hezbollah said it launched 29 attacks on Israeli forces, sites and settlements in southern Lebanon and northern Israel, using artillery shells, rockets and drones.

Israel has waged a massive air campaign in Lebanon since last month against what it claims are Hezbollah targets, an escalation of a year of cross-border warfare between Israel and the group since the start of Israel’s brutal offensive on Gaza.

More than 2,670 people have been killed and nearly 12,500 injured in Israeli attacks since October last year, according to Lebanese health authorities.

Israel expanded the conflict on October 1 this year by launching a ground attack on southern Lebanon.
