Sibu cops hunt motorcycle thieves after RM301,231 heist

SIBU: Police are currently searching for two men suspected of stealing RM301,231 from a car parked on Jalan Kampung Nyabor on Friday.

Sibu OCPD Assistant Commander Zulkipli Suhaili said they received a report from the victim at about 11.10am on the same day.

According to Zulkipli, the theft involved two suspects on a motorcycle.

“One of the suspects smashed the victim’s car window with a hard object before fleeing with a bag containing the money,” he said in a statement on Saturday (October 26).

Preliminary investigation shows that the suspects followed the victim after he withdrew the money from a bank.

While parking, one of the suspects reportedly shattered the driver’s side window and took the bag that had been placed on the front seat.

Efforts are underway to track down the suspects, aided by dashcam footage from the victim’s vehicle, Zulkipli added.

The case is currently being investigated under Article 379/427 of the Criminal Code for theft. If convicted, the suspects could face jail time, a fine or both.

Zulkipli also advised the public to be careful when conducting transactions at banks and not to leave valuables in plain sight to avoid similar incidents.
