Chatbot controversy sparks debate on social media
The chatbot Sewell worked with was reportedly modeled after Daenerys Targaryen, a character from the popular TV series Game of Thrones. Since news of the matter broke, some social media users have noticed that Targaryen-themed bots have been removed from Character.AI. Users trying to create similar bots received messages stating that such characters are now prohibited. However, others on Reddit claimed that the bot could have been recreated if the word “Targaryen” had not been used.

These updates aim to provide greater protection for younger users by adapting chatbot models to limit exposure to sensitive content. How Google got dragged into this
Google and its parent company Alphabet are also co-defendants in the lawsuit. In August, Google invited the co-founders of Character.AI and bought out the company’s initial investors, giving the startup a valuation of approximately $2.5 billion. However, a Google spokesman denied any direct involvement in the development of the Character.AI platform, distancing the tech giant from the controversy.
