By admin Justin Williams, 55, of Oswald Road, Oswestry, was sentenced at Shrewsbury Crown Court, sitting at Telford Justice Center, after previously pleading guilty to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Prosecutor Kevin Jones said the shocking incident occurred earlier, in May 2023.
He told the court that Williams had been in a relationship with the victim for four years, but they had already broken up at the time of the attack.
On the day of the attack, the victim went to Williams’ home just after 10 a.m.
When they entered the property, Williams told the victim, “Do you really think I brought you here because I love you?”
He then called her a “slag” and a “whore” before subjecting her to a cruel and terrifying attack.
During the attack, he kicked her twice in the thigh, causing her to fall to the floor.
While lying on the floor, Jones said, Williams jumped on the woman and tried to choke her.
He sat on her chest and pinned her arms with his knees before smashing her cell phone and hitting her in the face with it.
In addition to the physical attack, Williams also threatened his victim not to report the assault, saying: “If you tell anyone about this, I will kill you,” before adding that he would “gouge out” her eyes.
Plea of guilt
After his arrest, Williams denied assault but later pleaded guilty on the day of his trial.
Jones said the victim was left with bruises and scratches as a result of the incident, as well as flashbacks and constant anxiety.
In a moving victim impact statement read to the court by the victim, she explained how she had to move away from the area, losing friends and fearing every knock on the door.
She said: “It really changed me.”
Elizabeth Power, acting for Williams, said: “It appears there were some happy moments in this, but by the time of the events of May 2023 these were fewer and fewer and we have heard about the events of that day which were unfortunate to say the least.” .
She added that if Williams goes to prison for the attack, he “will have no one to blame but himself.”
She said Williams earned a “good income” as a construction manager.
“I treated my ex-partner horribly.”
Sentencing judge Michelle Heeley said: “You treated your former partner terribly.”
She continued: “You called her vulgar names and attacked her,” before adding: “It was cowardly behavior on the part of a tyrant.”
Williams was sentenced to 21 months in prison, suspended for two years.
As part of his sentence, he must complete 20 days of rehabilitation activity, 150 hours of unpaid work, pay compensation of £1,000 to the victim and costs of £1,630.
The judge also issued a ten-year restraining order.
Secretary Heeley said, “If you commit another crime in two years, you will go to prison.”
She added: “I don’t want to see you anymore.”
