Andrei Rublev almost had his testicle amputated after the star rushed to emergency surgery | Tennis | Sport

Andrey Rublev shared details of his recent health problems.

In the recent Asian frenzy, the world number seven revealed he had undergone emergency surgery before flying to China.

Rublev has now confirmed that he almost “lost” one of his testicles after being rushed into the operating room and signing papers agreeing to amputation.

After an extraordinary procedure, the Russian was able to successfully return to competition at last month’s China Open. He did not go into details of the operation at that time.

Rublev now competes in this week’s ATP 250 tournament in Stockholm, where he is in the top spot. After winning his first match, he downplayed his health concerns and bluntly declared, “I almost lost the ball.”

The world No. 7 explained: “I feel great now, everything went well. I don’t know what to call it smart, but I can call it funny… I almost lost the ball.

Rublev found himself on the operating table about four hours after he noticed pain in the area that came dangerously close to requiring amputation.

“I was very lucky because they say you only have five or six hours if the blood stops getting there and then it’s amputation,” he continued.

“I was lucky. I don’t know why I said, “Let’s go to the hospital to find out why I feel weird.”

“They checked me right away and took me to emergency surgery and were able to perform the surgery within three or four hours of the first sensation I felt. So they managed to do everything right and in the end everything is great.

Before going to the bottom, Rublev even gave surgeons permission to amputate. He added: “The last thing before they put me to sleep I signed a document saying I was allowed to amputate the ball – that was the last thing I saw before the operation.”
