A body, believed to be that of a missing UAH student, was found at Joe Wheeler State Park

The driver’s license of a man who was reportedly missing for almost a month was found attached to the clothes of a body found Monday afternoon at Joe Wheeler State Park.

Lauderdale County sheriff’s investigator Lt. James DiStefano said the driver’s license of 23-year-old David Stann was found on the body. Stann went missing in Athens in late September.

Stann’s car was discovered in the park on Monday, and his remains were found in a wooded area shortly thereafter. Stann was reportedly driving a black 2017 VW Jetta.

DiStefano said the body had apparently been there for some time.

Authorities did not positively identify the body as Stann’s.

The body was removed from the area late that evening and taken to the Alabama Department of Medical Examiners for an autopsy. It could take at least a week for preliminary autopsy results to be released.

Stann, a sophomore studying mechanical engineering at UAH, was last seen on the morning of September 22, according to reports.
