In Russia, a man who spent almost 10 weeks on a boat off the coast of Siberia in the Sea of Okhotsk was finally rescued.
The Far East Transport Prosecutor’s Office reported that the rescue operation took place on October 14.
Russian authorities were first alerted in August to the “disappearance of a group of people traveling on a small ship.”
Authorities said two men and one of them’s son, a 15-year-old, set out on a catamaran boat from Cape Perov in Russia’s Far East to go whale watching.
The group intended to head to Okha, further north. However, communication was lost and a search and rescue operation was launched.
On Monday, fishermen discovered the vessel near the village of Ust-Khairyuzovo and one man was found alive.

Russian authorities said the second man and his son tragically died.
The Eastern Transport Prosecutor’s Office published a video of the rescue operation, which shows the survivor gesturing from the boat.
Local news outlets reported that the survivor was a 46-year-old man who was in hospital. The media also reported that the two people who died were the brother and nephew of the 46-year-old, whose bodies he kept with him on the boat throughout the disappearance.
An investigation is underway into why the boat was lost at sea.
