Creepy 3Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton said he almost couldn’t stand one murder scene in the film.
According to the Book of Numbers, Creepy 3 grossed – so to speak – a killer opening weekend at the domestic box office, grossing over $18 million in ticket sales on a budget of $2 million before prints and advertising.
Perhaps the biggest opening surprise for an unrated film is that the film decisively beat out Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga’s Joker sequel in its second weekend premiere. Creepy 3 it grossed $18.9 million from 2,514 theaters Joker: Folie à Deux’s in its second week, revenues dropped 81% to $7 million from 4,102 theaters.
Creepy 3 continues the tradition of the first two films in the series of excessive violence and gore, which prompted 11 people to miss the film’s UK premiere and resulted in a rare ban on the films in France.
It turns out, however, that at least one scene in Creepy 3 he even tested Thornton’s tolerance for the film’s brutality. In a new interview with Hollywood reporterThornton said the scene where Art the Clown feeds his victim live rats from a tube pushed him to his limits.
“Unfortunately I couldn’t tag my body double because my face was showing throughout the shot and I was like, ‘Oh no, no, no.’ It’s about something that I just generally don’t like and every time I see it, it makes me sick,” Thornton said THR.
Thornton believes it Frightening franchise writer and director Damien Leone planned the scene so that the doppelgänger couldn’t step in.
“I feel like Damien put that element into the one-kill scene on purpose to see if he could break me, and it worked,” Thorton said THR. “So I almost crossed the line, but I held back because I didn’t want to ruin my makeup. My makeup artist did this for hours and she stood to the side and said, “Don’t you dare, David! Don’t you dare.
Thornton’s agent advised him not to audition for The Clown art competition
– said David Howard Thornton THR that he was an actor struggling to find work at the New York Theater when he was offered the role of Art the Clown.
Released in 2018, first Terrierfor the Book of Numbershad a production budget of $35,000. Thornton recalls that his agent thought the low-budget slasher was below the actor’s level.
“I had never auditioned for a movie role before, and I wanted to get into a movie,” Thornton recalled THR. “Then I came across this audition Frightening and I said, “Oh, he’s like an evil Mr. Bean.” I would love to have the chance to play a character like that. So I gave in and my agent actually fought me. She replied: “It’s such a low-budget indie film. You really don’t have to do things like that.”
According to the box office tracker, Frightening it grossed $342,749 worldwide, so a sequel was inevitable. As such, Creepy 2 was released in 2022 and grossed $15.7 million worldwide against a production budget of $250,000.
The next question is after success Creepy 3will it be Frightening 4. Considering Creepy 3 cliffhanger ending – coupled with the film’s huge opening weekend shot – announcement Creepy 4 it seems to be just a formality.
Whatever it is, Thornton said he’s “very” ready to be scared again.
“I was very happy with the ending Creepy 3 when I read the first draft of the script and said to Damien, “Please don’t change this aspect at all. Please, please, please. I love when the characters are left behind at the end of the movie,” Thornton said THR. “It’s almost like The Empire Strikes Back-type of ending and I really like it.
“So I’m really excited to see where this character goes, because he’s in a completely different state than he’s ever been before, and I can’t wait to see what paths we can explore with him in that way.” Thornton added.
Creepy 3which is unrated, is playing in theaters across the country.
