Organized labor in the country has been urged to work with President Bola Tinubu in realizing the Renewed Hope agenda for industrial development, job creation and poverty eradication.
Speaking in Ilorin on Tuesday at the 36th Joint Annual National Education Conference organized by the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) in collaboration with the Nigerian Textile Garment and Tailoring Employers’ Association (NTGTEA), the Minister of State for Labor and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, said the scheme is nearing completion for the launch of the Renewed Hope Labor Employment and Empowerment Program (LEEP).
At the conference held at the main hall of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labor Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, the Minister, represented by the Director General of MINILS, Comrade Issa Aremu, said the LEEP promises measures aimed at revitalizing the country’s economy and job creation to reduce unemployment.
According to her, the Labor Employment and Empowerment Program (LEEP) is a comprehensive package of job creation interventions by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Employment.
She stated that the program aimed to facilitate the creation of 2.5 million jobs, directly and indirectly on an annual basis, while ensuring the well-being and safety of workers across the country.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the Institute, Comrade Issa Aremu, has commended the National Union of Textile Garments and Tailors for its commitment to the education and welfare of its members over the years.
He noted that in its 46 years as a union, NUTGTWN has signed 48 collective agreements through collective bargaining, without resorting to workplace closure and exclusion by employers.
He said the peaceful industrial environment in the textile and clothing sector was due to consistent training of workers, adding that MINILS would further collaborate with the Union for further capacity building.
Comrade AREMU said President Bola Tinubu longed for industrialization through the revival of collapsed textile factories.
He therefore called on both the employers’ association and the textile sector unions to continue cooperation with the government on a sustainable industrial policy, adding that “sustainable reforms are only possible through value addition and not through large-scale imports of goods that can be sourced locally are produced. ”.
AREMU recommended what he called the “Dangote-Government – Deal formula” for all productive sectors of the economy.
He said the government is “business in business” by creating an enabling environment and deliberate policies that will discourage dumping and imports and encourage local production.
