Former White House Communications Director Alyssa Farah Griffin has criticized her former boss, Donald Trumpsince she left the administration.
But that doesn’t mean she thinks some of the senior staffers Trump has appointed for a second administration are bad people.
“(Rep. Mike Waltz) is objectively a strong choice for Nat’l Security Advisor. He is a foreign policy realist, understands America’s role in the world and is a war veteran. He is a China hawk and tough on Russia and Iran. A sigh of relief for people who were afraid that Trump would take a completely isolationist attitude,” Griffin wrote to X.
She added: “You all know I’m not a Trump fan, but I support America. Waltz like NSA and Rubio like SecState are good for America and the world.”
Trump has tapped Waltz, a retired National Guard officer and war veteran, to become his national security adviser, a person familiar with the matter said Monday. The move would put Waltz at the forefront of a litany of national security crises — ranging from the ongoing efforts to arm Ukraine and escalating concerns about the growing alliance between Russia and North Korea to the continued attacks in the Middle East by Iranian allies and the pursuit of a ceasefire between Israel, Hamas and Hezbollah.
Waltz, a three-term Republican congressman from east-central Florida, was the first Green Beret elected to the U.S. House and easily won reelection last week. He served as chairman of the House Armed Services Preparedness Subcommittee and as a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Trump is also expected to tap Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as his next secretary of state. Rubio, who was in the running to become vice president, had made it clear he was interested in potentially joining Trump’s Cabinet.
The Florida senator, a China hawk, was a constant on the campaign trail during Trump’s third presidential run.
He was the leading Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee.
