By admin A grieving mother has released a public statement following the suicide of her 14-year-old daughter, insisting that the family, although completely devastated, “don’t blame anything, anyone or any service.”
Queensland teenager Isla Marschke, from Bundaberg, took her own life on October 8 after reportedly struggling with mental ill health and bullying for several years. Her mother, Christie Jacobsen, told the media that she had difficulty getting Isla the help she needed because of her age and long waiting lists to see a child psychologist.
“I was constantly denied care because she was too young or their books were full. Follow-up care was almost impossible,” she said.
Unfortunately, Christie performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Isla when she found her in the family’s backyard earlier this month, but the teenager could not be resuscitated. Isla left behind only one simple note: “I’m sorry, I love you mom.”
Amid speculation about the cause of Isla’s untimely death, Christie has released a public statement urging people to accept the death of “beautiful Isla” as a “terrible tragedy.”

“She made this decision based on a combination of factors,” Christie wrote on social media. “We do NOT blame any thing, anyone or any service.
“In our regional city, I actually experienced great difficulty getting help from professionals in a timely manner and was constantly told about restrictions due to her age or waiting lists. I wanted to emphasize rather than blame. We don’t blame anyone. We need to find a specialist now. way forward.”
Christie thanked her community “for everything that was done” after Isla’s death. “There are no words,” she said.
A fundraising campaign has since been launched to support the family, including covering Isla’s funeral costs “to honor her memory with a beautiful send-off”. Isla’s sister, Ava, 16, remembered her siblings as “the light in our lives.”
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved sister Isla has tragically ended her life,” Ava wrote.
“At this difficult time, we are appealing for support to help cover her funeral and related expenses over the next few weeks as we recover.”
In a follow-up message, Christie thanked the public for their donations, which as of Friday had reached $63,000 of the $70,000 goal. “It makes sense because Isla touched people’s hearts. Our communities in which we lived loved us as much as we loved them,” Christie wrote.
“People told me they didn’t expect people to understand it. However, when I learn about a new person every day, I am humbled and almost terrified that we can be the beneficiaries of such generosity and not have been told what it means.
“But for the strangers in the world who have been forced to help us – you blind me with your spirit and generosity. Isla was the most loving girl and repeated my words. She would be so touched and almost torn by your kindness Just like us.
“Thank you from the bottom of our broken hearts for caring for beautiful Isla.”
