A Canton man pleads guilty to stealing a motorcycle in Rochester and a firearm in Iowa

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KTTC) – A 58-year-old man pleaded guilty to a string of crimes, including stealing a motorcycle from a Rochester home and robbing a home in Iowa.

In Tuesday’s plea agreement, Steven Current, of Canton, Minnesota, admitted to having 15 prior felonies and that on September 26, 2022, he broke into a rural home in Winneshiek County and stole eight firearms.

Current also admitted that on June 9, 2022, he stole a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle from a home in Rochester and drove it to Iowa to steal a firearm.

Current said he dropped two unscratched Minnesota lottery tickets at the scene of the burglary.

Law enforcement identified Current by tracking the store where the tickets were purchased and through a home security system.

Current was convicted of one count of felon in possession of a firearm and one count of interstate transportation of a stolen motor vehicle.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.
