You don’t have to take specifically companions with you about this Dragon Age: The Veil Guard quest, so bring whoever you want!

Dragon Age The Veilguard cornered in the Catacombs walkthrough
To start the Cornered in the Catacombs side mission, talk to the injured Gray Warden at Glandivalis Square in Dock Town in Minrathous. Their location is marked by the exclamation point on the map below:

Talk to them for more information. Guards are trapped underground in the nearby catacombs.

After speaking with Director Vesta, follow the quest in your journal and follow the quest marker to the beginning of the catacombs in Dock Town. The entrance is at Aula’s Lookout.

Enter the open metal gate next to the fast-traveling beacon and note a large blight growth on your left. Once it starts glowing red, walk close to it and it will explode. But be prepared, some darkspawn will burst out of the opening.

Defeat them as they appear and then go through the newly revealed opening. There are a lot of darkspawn in this room, including some high level ones. It’s tempting to fight them all, but we highly recommend letting your companions deal with them while you find and destroy the blight pustules in this room – otherwise they’ll just keep spawning!
With your back to the entrance, there will be two blight pustules high on the wall opposite you and to the right. Destroy it with a ranged attack.

Now look at the wall where the blight pustules were and there will be one on the floor on the left, and then another on the floor on the right. Destroy both of these and then you can focus on clearing out the remaining darkspawn before moving on.

Once you’ve cleared the room, head to the right side of the room and you’ll find a wall of blight blocking your path. Now that it’s glowing red, destroy it and you can move on to the next area.

Follow the path here and you will soon encounter more darkspawn. Deal with this and continue following the path until it takes you to Ghilan’nain’s Sanctum.
You will encounter several darkspawn here, try to clear some of them to give yourself more room to move. However, just like in the previous room, you’ll want to focus on clearing out the blight. Remember, you should use your companions as darkspawn fodder.
The first fungus is on the wall to your left as you enter the shrine.

Then head left into the next smaller part of the room to find the second blight boil at the bottom of the pillar.

Then the next plague boil will be just above here, at the top of the pillar. Destroy it and the next boil in the shrine will light up.

Go to the center of the shrine where the tall statue is and look up. Directly above there is a large mold pimple on the ceiling, but you cannot destroy it immediately.

Instead, use Davrin’s ‘Blight Hunter’ ability to attack him first (remember, the Dagger can use this ability if he’s not in your party), after which he will briefly turn red.

Attack the boil as soon as it turns red and, once destroyed, the rest of the boils in the area will light up. Here you can find them all:
- On the roof of the first room you entered the sanctuary.
- On the right side column of the room leading to the shrine exit.
Once you have these two, the plague door blocking the path will open. Continue here.

Follow the path around and it will take you to another blight door blocking your path. To open it, keep following the path to the right and you’ll come to an area with some water and large rocks in it.
When prompted, use Harding’s ‘Stone Song’ ability to move the rock closest to the beam down. Then use the same skill to pull the stone out just above when prompted.

Then go to the rock formation furthest from you and use the skill again to pull it back into the water. The device’s power beam now points to another old one on the wall, but you’re not done yet.

Follow the newly revealed path forward and then up the stairs to your right. At the very top of the stairs, return to yourself and look up – you should see a large blight boiling here. Destroy this and then return to the previously blocked blight door.

Go back through the plague door and use the elevator to return to the surface. Exit the elevator and you will notice that you are now in a Back Alley of Dock Town. This is the last part of this quest! More darkspawn await here, but you know the drill by now: concentrate on clearing those blight pustules. The first is located just above the elevator exit and grows on the side of a fallen scaffolding.

The next one is on the left center wall of the alley when your back is to the elevator. For us it only lit up once we defeated the large darkspawn in the alley.

Once you destroy this, you can remove the blight wall on your right and the one directly in front of you. Go through the one directly in front of you and return to Warden Vesta to complete this quest.
