Utah voters react to presidential election results

SALT LAKE CITY – In the aftermath of Election Day on Tuesday, Fox 13 spoke with Utah voters to get their reaction and their analysis of what lies ahead for our country.

No matter who we spoke to, the results of the presidential race were paramount.

At Hidden Peak Coffee and Roasting Company in Salt Lake City, where they offered a free cup of coffee to everyone who voted, manager Sarah Hansen said her Republican customers clearly had a better day Wednesday than their Democratic counterparts.

“I ask almost every customer that comes in, and some are super happy, overjoyed, couldn’t be more grateful, and others come in and are a little disappointed.”

Ken Nielson of Taylorsville fits into the latter category. He was not happy that Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris for a second stint in the Oval Office.

“I don’t believe, unlike some of my friends here, that Trump is capable of running the country responsibly,” he said.

Nielson. “And I have very little confidence in his ability to look after the little guys. I think he has an audience that he plays for, and that’s not us.”

On the other hand, Murray’s Corey Smith was excited to see Trump become president-elect, although he believes Trump will face many challenges.

“I feel like the work is just beginning: Donald Trump has a lot to do, a lot of problems; Will the government cooperate with him? — I don’t know,” Smith said.

And some did not support Trump because they hope both sides of the political spectrum can come together for the good of the country.

“Just lead with kindness and I hope everyone can take that away from this election,” said Sandy resident Haley Ellingson.
