iPhone SE 4 may launch sooner than you think: here’s what we know about its launch timeline

Wondering when Apple will launch its next budget iPhone: the iPhone SE 4? If rumors are to be believed, the fourth-generation SE could hit the market in the early months of 2025, with production expected to start in late 2024. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to begin mass production of the iPhone. SE 4 already in December 2024.

If these reports hold up, we could see the SE 4 launching in March or April 2025. Kuo suggests that Apple expects to produce around 8.6 million units of this new budget-friendly model in the first quarter, with several key upgrades over previous models.

In terms of specs and pricing, here’s a quick overview of everything we expect from the next-generation Apple iPhone SE.

Design and display: One of the biggest expected changes concerns the design. Rumor has it that the iPhone SE 4 will adopt a more modern look, similar to the iPhone 14 with a full screen and thin bezels. Gone are the chunky bezels and Touch ID home button, staples of previous SE models. Instead, the new SE will likely get a 6.1-inch OLED display, a big improvement over the SE 3’s 4.7-inch LCD screen.

Processor and performance: Another important upgrade is the chipset. Apple is reportedly planning to equip the SE 4 with the latest A18 series processor, the same as in the iPhone 16 series. If true, this upgrade will position the SE 4 as a highly capable device, on par with Apple’s flagship models in terms of raw processing power. Additionally, the SE 4 is expected to come with 8GB of RAM – double the current SE model – to support Apple Intelligence, Apple’s AI-powered suite, and for smooth multitasking and future-proof performance.

Camera: The camera is also expected to receive a substantial upgrade. The iPhone SE 4 replaces the 12-megapixel rear camera and will likely have a 48-megapixel rear camera with a single lens. While it can’t match the multi-lens setups of premium iPhones, this camera should deliver excellent image quality, aided by Apple’s computational photography features like Smart HDR and Night Mode. A 12-megapixel front camera is expected for improved selfies, making the SE 4 a strong option for photography.

Battery and charging: Battery life on the SE 4 will improve, with rumors pointing to a 3,279mAh battery, significantly larger than the SE 3’s 2,018mAh capacity. Charging speeds are expected to remain at 20W, but Apple may add MagSafe support, a feature previously limited to more expensive models. Additionally, in accordance with EU regulations, Apple will likely add USB-C charging. Other expected upgrades include Wi-Fi 6 support and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

Prices and availability: While the specs are promising, the final price will be a deciding factor. If the rumors are true, the iPhone SE 4 could retail for between $499 and $549 in the US, a step up from the SE 3’s starting price of $429. In India, we expect the price to be around Rs 45,000, slightly higher than the SE 3’s launch price of Rs 43,900, but still significantly lower than Apple’s flagship models. With its affordable price, the iPhone SE 4 could become a popular choice for those entering the Apple ecosystem or upgrading from older models.
