Armed police and emergency units today responded to a domestic dispute at a home on Murray’s Road, Douglas.
It led to a temporary closure of the road and the evacuation of schoolchildren and teachers from a nearby primary school.
It has now been confirmed that a man has been arrested.
The Isle of Man Constabulary said they received a call about the incident at around 10.50am today (Tuesday), following which they assessed the situation and decided to deploy armed officers, supported by unarmed police and negotiators, due to the potential risk to those involved. .
As a precaution, the force also closed Murray’s Road and some surrounding roads and lanes.
The principal of Scoill yn Jubilee made the decision to safely transfer the children from the primary school on Laureston Avenue to the nursery school on Stoney Road.
Eyewitnesses reported that a drone was seen overhead as part of the police response, and sounds of loud shouting were heard from the premises at the center of the operation.
In an official police statement, the force confirmed that one man had been arrested following the incident.
The full statement reads: ‘At 10.50am today, police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at an address in Murrays Road, Douglas.
‘The available information was assessed and it was determined that it was necessary to deploy armed response officers to the scene, supported by unarmed officers and police negotiators.
‘To eliminate any risk to those involved, officers, paying attention to the general public, temporarily closed the road and a nearby school was informed of the situation.
“The matter was resolved at 3.10pm with the arrest of a man, and the road was reopened.
‘It is unfortunate that this incident has had a small impact on the community, but this was to ensure they were not at risk and to effectively apprehend a suspect.’
At 3.10pm police confirmed the situation had been resolved safely, with a male suspect taken into custody and the road reopened.
