Police in Sault Ste. Marie says a suspect in a vehicle was handing out Halloween candy that appears to have been tampered with.
The police were alerted on November 1.
“The candy in question was a box of Smartie brand chocolates that appeared to have a hole in it and the box was wet,” police said in a news release Saturday.
“It is believed the sweets were collected around John Street and Albert Street by someone handing out sweets from his car.”
Fortunately the candy was not eaten. No description of the person or vehicle was provided and no charges have been filed.
However, police said the incident is “a reminder to parents and guardians to check all items collected by children on Halloween to ensure it is safe to eat.”
