KANSAS CITY – Five people were rescued from an apartment building fire that broke out in Kansas City on Tuesday.
Just after 5:30. On Tuesday, crews responded to a reported fire at a residential structure at 300 Gladestone Boulevard, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.
The services reported heavy fire and smoke on the first floor of a four-story residential building. Crews launched an internal offensive attack. There were numerous reports of people trapped in the building due to heavy smoke.
KCFD conducted a total of five rescues on the second, third and fourth floors. Four passengers were transported to check whether they suffered from smoke inhalation. The condition of all patients was stable. The Red Cross ordered for 13 adults and 3 children. No other injuries were reported. The fire spread to one apartment, but there was smoke in the entire building.
Investigators considered the cause of the fire to be accidental and undetermined. According to Hopkins, the fire was caused by an electric strip heater. However, investigators were unable to determine whether the cause was an electrical failure of the heater or whether the cause was radiant heat falling on flammable objects. This is due to extensive damage.
