By admin On Saturday 5 October, Cashel Lions Club completed the arduous Four County Challenge, which saw the group traverse parts of Waterford, Tipperary, Cork and Limerick.
The four lions, Willie Fahey, Cal Flavin, DJ Horan and Eddie Morrissey, along with TJ Carey of Mid Tipp Hillwalking Club, headed to the trailhead on Lough Bay at 7am on Saturday morning. They then went to the slopes of Knocknalougha in Waterford and from there to Knocknaclugga in Tipperary.
The group managed to make their way through thick fog and difficult conditions underfoot along the Blackwater Way until they reached Crow Hill car park, where they were joined by Kate Fahey.
The group was then joined by Cashel Lions Club president Tom Horan and Margaret Molan Ryan as they reached Knokaneagh, the final summit of the Knockmealdowns.

After reaching Skeheenrinky, a torrential downpour hit the hikers, making the last 7-8 kilometers a challenge for the group.
Despite the deteriorating weather, Monica Slattery, Mary Gleeson and Melissa Flavin joined the group at Skeheenrinky for the final stage of the 34.8km challenge.
By the time the tourists reached the end of the challenge in Kings Yard, the group consisted of eight people. They completed the Four County Challenge in less than eight hours.
The challenge was this year’s main fundraiser for the Cashel Lions Club. All funds raised through the Four County Challenge will be used locally to fund a range of club projects including the Seniors’ Party, Christmas Food Vouchers, Seniors’ Holiday and the purchase of a minibus for Cashel Day Care Centre.
The club expressed gratitude for the generous financial support from the local community and companies that sponsored club members.
